Located in the historic center of Modena, the Church of San Giorgio was designed by the famous Este architect Gaspare Vigarani in the mid-17th century. The building, of great historical and cultural value, required restoration of the roof and safety improvements to its access and transit in 2017. Sicurpal was commissioned to design and install the fall arrest system.
CUSTOMER NEEDS:
The historic center's context and the building's value prompted the client to specify solutions with minimal visual impact. The need for safety was highlighted on two levels: the upper octagonal tower and the lower roof. The building's structure is solid, primarily made of stone.
SOLUTION ADOPTED:
Sicurpal technicians presented several solutions, which were then approved by the construction management, seeking to optimize the use and installation of the anchor points.
Particular attention was paid to the upper section. The structure's octagonal shape required the study and creation of a custom product: Sicurpal's designers and production team, starting with a 90° curve, created a product with a wider curvature and support, capable of integrating with the existing downspouts. All variations were designed following the instructions provided by the company responsible for the roof restoration.
In the lower part of the building, the installation of the Shed line lifeline was chosen, combined with wall eyebolts, to allow safe access to the roof, and single anchor points, essential to prevent the pendulum effect.
The nature of the structure precluded structural calculations. To verify the anchorage strength, Sicurpal technicians conducted tests directly on site upon completion of the work.
